Ricoh Women's British Open 3 - 6 Aug 2017

In 2017, Kingsbarns Golf Links will play host to its first-ever major championship when the Ricoh Women’s British Open takes place there between 3 - 6 Aug.

Just 7 miles from St. Andrews, it is just one of five majors on the women’s professional golf calendar and the only one to take place in the UK. With three of the others in the USA and another – the Evian Masters – staged in France.

The event was established by the St Andrews-based Ladies Golf Union in 1976 and, in 1994, it became a permanent fixture on the LPGA schedule. Seven years later, it became a designated major.

Consequently, Kingsbarns will be joining a very select and illustrious group when it makes its bow as a host venue for the event.

“We have welcomed tour events to Kingsbarns for many years but this will be on a different scale,” remarked chief executive Alan Hogg.

“We are extremely proud to have been selected to host such a quality event.”

The Ricoh Women’s British Open is widely regarded as the most ‘international’ of the five women’s major championships. Indeed, the 2014 event featured players representing 28 different nations, including the top 20 players on the Rolex Women’s World Rankings.
